Iceland cruise from Southampton: parking and prep

Parking guidance for an Iceland cruise leaving Southampton, typically 12-16 nights and seasonal.

By Cruise Azure team 2 min read

Iceland cruises from Southampton are a niche summer product, run by P&O, Cunard, Fred. Olsen, Saga, Holland America, and Princess on selected sailings. Typical itineraries are 12 to 16 nights, often including Norway or the Faroes alongside Iceland. This page covers the parking implications.

The typical Iceland cruise pattern

An Iceland-focused cruise from Southampton runs 12 to 14 nights and combines two or three Iceland ports with one or two stops in the Faroes or Norway.

Common Iceland stops:

Reykjavik: the capital and most common port call, often an overnight stay.

Akureyri: the northern Iceland port.

Isafjordur: the Westfjords port, less commonly called.

Heimaey: the Westman Islands port.

Some itineraries are longer (15-18 nights) and combine Iceland with the Norwegian Fjords or the British Isles.

Which terminal

Iceland cruises sail from any of the five Southampton terminals. The cruise line confirms.

Best service for an Iceland cruise

The longer cruise duration (12-14 nights typical) means the per-day price gap between Meet & Greet and Park & Ride matters less. Many customers move up to Meet & Greet for the convenience on a longer trip.

What to pack for an Iceland cruise

Iceland is cool even in summer. Typical packing:

  • Heavier layers than for a Fjords cruise. Iceland in July can be 8 to 14 degrees C.
  • Waterproof outer layer and waterproof trousers for shore excursions.
  • Walking boots; many shore excursions are short hikes on rough ground.
  • Hat and gloves; useful even in summer.
  • Swimwear for hot springs (the Blue Lagoon and others are common excursions).

The luggage volume is heavy. Iceland gear takes more space than Mediterranean gear.

Iceland cruise check-in timing

Standard 11:00 am or 12:00 pm check-in for an afternoon sail-away. For our handover slot, the standard 90-minute arrival applies.

Iceland cruise season

The Iceland cruise season runs June to August, occasionally extending to early September. Outside this window, sea conditions and port availability make Iceland sailings impractical.

Pre-cruise hotel considerations

Iceland cruises attract customers who plan further in advance because the niche product books up early. A pre-cruise hotel paired with the cruise is a common pattern.
