P&O Arvia Parking Southampton: Ocean Terminal Guide

Sailing on P&O Arvia from Southampton? Here is how to plan parking for the Ocean Cruise Terminal, including why Park & Ride often wins on longer Arvia cruises.

By Cruise Azure Parking team 6 min read

Booking p&o arvia parking southampton tends to land in your inbox a lot earlier than your packing list, and for good reason. Arvia is one of P&O's two largest ships, sister to Iona, and she sails full almost every week of the year from the Port of Southampton. With 5,000-plus guests heading to Berths 46-47 at the Ocean cruise terminal on turnaround day, the cars stack up fast. We have parked thousands of Arvia guests at our compound near the port, and the patterns are predictable enough that you can plan around them.

This guide pulls together what we have learned watching Arvia turn around, week in week out. Which terminal she uses, why longer fly-cruise itineraries change the maths on parking, when to arrive for check-in, and how to dodge the return-day pinch point so you are home before the kettle goes cold.

Where Arvia berths in Southampton

Arvia is an Eastern Docks ship. Almost every sailing uses the Ocean cruise terminal at Berths 46-47, which has the dedicated drop-off forecourt P&O uses for both Arvia and Iona. If you have sailed before on Britannia or Ventura from Mayflower or Horizon, do not assume Arvia is the same gate. The Eastern Docks have a separate dock entrance, separate security, and a slightly different traffic pattern off the M271. Always check the terminal printed on your e-ticket the week before you sail, because P&O does very occasionally reassign berths during refits or weather disruption.

Our drivers know Ocean inside out. From our base at SO19 4DY we route straight in via Dock Gate 20, drop the car at the forecourt for Meet & Greet, or whisk you in by minibus from the compound if you have chosen Park & Ride.

The Arvia itinerary mix and why it matters for parking

Arvia is built for long, sun-chasing fly-cruises. Most of her year is split across three patterns:

  • Caribbean fly-cruises, typically 14 nights, with Southampton acting as the turnaround port for the full ship when she rotates back.
  • Norwegian Fjords sailings, usually 7 nights, through the summer.
  • Mediterranean cruises, often 11 to 14 nights, through spring and autumn.
  • Occasional Canary Islands and shoulder-season runs.

A short fjords week is a different parking question from a 14-night Caribbean. The longer you are away, the more the per-night cost of Meet & Greet adds up, and the more attractive flat-priced Park & Ride becomes. We hold our prices flat, no surge weeks, no chasing discount codes, so the comparison is the same every time:

  • 7 nights: Park & Ride £80, Meet & Greet £130
  • 14 nights: Park & Ride £110, Meet & Greet £170
  • 21 nights: Park & Ride £130, Meet & Greet £230

On a fortnight Caribbean cruise that is a £60 saving by choosing Park & Ride, which is more or less a round of drinks at the pool bar on day one. On the longer back-to-back sailings we sometimes see on Arvia, the gap widens again. None of this means Meet & Greet is the wrong choice. If you are arriving tight to your check-in window, travelling with mobility-restricted relatives, or simply value the dock-door drop, the convenience is real. It just means Arvia guests on a 14-night sailing should at least look at both numbers before clicking.

When to arrive for an Arvia check-in

P&O issues staggered boarding times for Arvia in advance, usually between roughly 12:00 and 15:30. Stick to your slot. Ocean's forecourt is sized for a full Arvia turnaround, but if every car arrives at noon, the approach roads back up onto the dock estate roundabout.

If you have chosen Meet & Greet, we ask you to land at the terminal at your printed boarding time, not earlier. Our driver meets you at the forecourt, you unload, hand over the keys, and walk straight into the terminal. The whole exchange is recorded on body cam so there is an objective record of the car's condition at handover, and the same again on return.

If you have chosen Park & Ride, aim to be at our SO19 4DY compound around 30 to 40 minutes before your boarding slot. We run continuous minibus shuttles to the Ocean cruise terminal and drop right at the forecourt. Our service hours are 07:00 to 16:30, seven days a week, which comfortably covers every P&O boarding window we have seen on Arvia.

Returning to Southampton on a full-ship disembarkation

Disembarkation on Arvia is the day Southampton's traffic gets interesting. With around 5,000 guests, plus the inbound turnaround crowd from about 11:00, the dock estate is at its busiest between roughly 07:30 and 10:30. Cabin colours are called in batches. Your job is simply to be in the lounge when your colour is up, then walk off, clear customs, and find your car.

For Meet & Greet, message us as soon as you are off the ship. We aim to have your car at the forecourt within minutes. We park the keys nearby for exactly this reason, not back at the compound. For Park & Ride, walk out of the Ocean terminal and pick up our shuttle from the dedicated coach lane. You are back at the compound, in your own car, and on the M27 inside 20 minutes in most cases.

Two small tips that save real time on Arvia return days:

  • Do not pre-pay for express disembarkation if you do not need it. Standard call-off works fine for self-drive guests.
  • If your sailing returns on a Saturday, expect heavier M27 traffic from late morning. An earlier walk-off slot is worth asking for at guest services.

Why guests trust us with Arvia bookings

We have parked over 10,000 cruise cars and hold a 4.9 average from more than 980 verified reviews on Google and Trustpilot. Our compound is gated and CCTV-monitored, we carry £2 million of public liability insurance for the full duration of your sailing, and we are listed under Trading Standards' Buy With Confidence and approved by ABP. All of that is set out on our accreditations page if you want the detail.

A few honest notes for Arvia guests specifically. We do not take trailers or caravans, and we ask you to call us first if your vehicle has hand controls or significant modifications. Free wash and a quick top-up charge are available on request, not as a default, so mention them when you book if you would like them.

Frequently asked

Q. Does Arvia always sail from the Ocean cruise terminal in Southampton? Yes, almost always. Berths 46-47 in the Eastern Docks are the standard slot for Arvia turnarounds. Confirm on your e-ticket as P&O reserve the right to reassign in rare cases.

Q. Is Park & Ride or Meet & Greet better for a 14-night Arvia Caribbean cruise? On price alone, Park & Ride is the cheaper choice for a fortnight (£110 vs £170). Meet & Greet still wins on convenience if you want a dock-door drop. Both options run from our compound near the port.

Q. What time should I arrive at your compound for Arvia? Aim for 30 to 40 minutes before your printed boarding slot. We run continuous shuttles within our 07:00 to 16:30 service hours.

Q. Can you handle a same-day P&O parking booking if I am sailing on Arvia tomorrow? We will do our best. Call us to discuss late availability rather than risk a no-show online.
