QEII Cruise Terminal Southampton Parking: The Full Guide

Everything you need to know about QEII cruise terminal parking in Southampton, including drop-off, shuttle options, and why this Eastern Docks berth is often allocated late.

By Cruise Azure Parking team 6 min read

If you are sailing from Berths 38 to 39 on the Eastern Docks, sorting QEII cruise terminal parking is one of the last jobs to tick off before your holiday properly starts. The QEII Terminal sits behind Dock Gate 4 on the SO14 3GG side of the port and tends to handle the larger ships that cannot fit at Ocean, plus the overflow when two big sailings clash on the same morning. We park cruise cars from QEII every week, so this guide pulls together what we know about the terminal, what to expect on the day, and how our service slots in.

We are based at SO19 4DY, about 1.5 miles from the dock gates and easy off the M27. Whether you choose Meet & Greet at the terminal forecourt or Park & Ride from our compound near the port, the routing into QEII is straightforward once you know which gate to aim for.

Where the QEII Terminal actually is

QEII is one of the two Eastern Docks terminals at the Port of Southampton, alongside Ocean. The postcode for satnav is SO14 3GG, and you enter the port estate through Dock Gate 4 off Platform Road, just past the Town Quay roundabout. From the M27 you come down the M271, follow the brown port signs through the city, and Dock Gate 4 is on your left as you pass the Red Funnel ferry terminal.

The terminal building itself is a long, low structure with a covered drop-off lane out front. There is a porter line for hold luggage, then the walk into check-in. It is not the newest terminal in the port (Horizon at the horizon cruise terminal only opened in 2021), but it works well for the bigger ships because the berths can take vessels that Ocean cannot.

For the other side of the port, the Western Docks side, see our guides to the mayflower cruise terminal, the city cruise terminal, and the new horizon cruise terminal. Ocean is covered in our ocean cruise terminal guide and sits a short walk down the quay from QEII.

Why QEII gets called the overflow terminal

Southampton runs five cruise terminals across two dock systems, and the port allocates ships to berths based on size, turnaround needs, and how many other vessels are in on the same day. QEII at Berths 38 to 39 has the depth and length to take some of the largest cruise ships visiting the UK, which is why P&O's Britannia and Royal Caribbean's larger sailings often end up here when Ocean is taken.

Because of that allocation pattern, QEII frequently appears late on a customer's e-tickets. We regularly see passengers who booked under the assumption they would be at Ocean, only for the port to confirm QEII three or four weeks out. The terminals are next door to each other on the Eastern Docks, so on the day it makes very little difference for our team, but it is worth checking your cruise line's final paperwork the week before sailing rather than relying on the original confirmation.

If your line is P&O Cruises, our p-and-o parking page covers the specifics for Aurora, Britannia, Iona, Arvia and the rest of the fleet. For Royal Caribbean sailings, see royal-caribbean parking, and for MSC visits to Southampton, msc parking has the details.

Ships that typically use QEII

The mix at QEII shifts season to season, but the regulars include:

  • P&O Aurora and Britannia rotations, particularly mid-summer and the Christmas market itineraries
  • Royal Caribbean larger sailings on UK roundtrips
  • MSC ships visiting Southampton on Northern Europe or transatlantic positioning runs
  • Cunard's Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria when Ocean is unavailable
  • Holland America and Princess vessels on overflow days

This is not an exhaustive list and the port operations team can move ships between berths at short notice, especially in spring when weather and turnaround windows tighten. If you are unsure whether your sailing is QEII or Ocean, the cleanest way to confirm is your final boarding documents, usually issued 14 to 21 days before sailing.

Our Meet & Greet at QEII

For Meet & Greet, you drive straight to QEII, pull into the drop-off lane on the terminal forecourt, and our driver meets you there. You hand over the keys, the porters take your bags, and you walk into check-in. The whole exchange is body-cammed for both of us, with a walk-around of the car recorded on the driver's body cam before we take it away. There is no tablet, no signature, no emailed log, just a clear video record of the car's condition.

We park your car back at our compound near the port, a gated, CCTV-monitored site at SO19 4DY. When you sail back in, you let us know once you have collected your bags, and the car meets you on the same forecourt you dropped at. Meet & Greet pricing is flat: £80 for one night, £130 for seven, £170 for fourteen, £230 for twenty-one, £245 for thirty-one, and £245 again for forty-one nights. No surge pricing, no codes to chase.

Our Park & Ride to QEII

For Park & Ride, you drive to our compound at SO19 4DY first, park up yourself, and our minibus runs you down to the terminal. The shuttle drops you at the same QEII forecourt as the Meet & Greet drivers, so check-in is identical from that point. On return, you call us once you have your bags and the minibus picks you back up.

Park & Ride pricing: £50 for one night, £80 for seven, £110 for fourteen, £130 for twenty-one, £150 for thirty-one. The shuttle runs within our 07:00 to 16:30 service window, seven days a week, which covers the vast majority of QEII embarkation slots.

What we cover, and what we do not

Every car we park is insured for £2 million public liability for the full duration of your sailing. We have parked over 10,000 cars from Southampton, and we hold Trading Standards Buy With Confidence membership and ABP approval (see our accreditations for the paperwork). The 4.9 average across 980+ verified reviews on Google and Trustpilot is on our reviews page.

There are a few things we do not handle: we do not park trailers or caravans, and we cannot take vehicles with hand controls or significant modifications unless we have agreed it in advance. If your car needs anything out of the ordinary, please contact us before booking so we can talk it through honestly.

Frequently asked

Q. Will my car definitely be at QEII when I sail? Not necessarily. The port allocates berths and ships sometimes move between QEII and Ocean. Check your cruise line's final boarding pack 14 to 21 days before sailing, and let us know if anything changes.

Q. How early should I arrive at QEII? Most cruise lines ask passengers to arrive within a specific check-in window printed on the boarding pass. We recommend arriving at the start of your window to avoid queues at the terminal forecourt.

Q. Is the QEII drop-off covered? Yes, the drop-off lane runs under a canopy, which is useful when Southampton weather does its usual thing.

Q. Can I get a wash or top-up charge while you have my car? We can sometimes arrange a free wash or quick-charge as an add-on on request. It is not part of our standard service, so please ask when you book and we will tell you what is realistic for your dates.
