Comparing cruise parking operators: the all-in price

How to fairly compare Southampton cruise parking operators on the all-in price rather than the headline.

By Cruise Azure team 3 min read

Comparing Southampton cruise parking operators on price sounds simple. The headline rate of each operator is usually visible; pick the cheapest. The problem: the headline is rarely the price you pay. This page covers how to do the comparison properly, on the all-in price rather than the headline.

What the headline conceals

For most operators, the headline price is the start of the calculation, not the end. Common additions:

Discount code. The headline is inflated; the post-code rate is the real number. Apply the operator's current best code to compare.

Booking fee. £2 to £4 typically. Added at checkout.

Discretionary insurance upgrade. Some operators default-add a "premium" insurance tier. Deselect or include in the comparison.

Service tier upgrade. Some operators have a base service and an enhanced service with extras (express handover, longer return window). Be clear which tier you are comparing.

Vehicle surcharge. Oversize, EV, motorhome, trailer. The headline is for a standard car; surcharges add to the total.

Add-ons. Luggage assistance, EV charging, valet cleaning. Compare like-for-like on what is included.

Cancellation insurance. Some operators add a default "flexible booking" cover. Include it or remove it consistently across operators.

The honest all-in price is the bottom-line number on the final confirmation page before card details.

The fair comparison method

For a true like-for-like comparison:

  • Pick the cruise dates you actually want.
  • Pick the cruise line and the terminal.
  • Pick the service you actually want (Meet & Greet or Park & Ride).
  • Pick the vehicle you actually have.
  • Pick the add-ons you actually want.
  • Go to each operator's quote tool and complete a real booking up to the card-details step.
  • Compare the bottom-line all-in price.

This takes 5 to 10 minutes per operator. The result is a comparison that is genuinely useful.

What we do

Our pricing is published flat at the price you pay. The booking flow shows the all-in number before any optional add-ons.

The price you see in our quote tool is the price the card will be charged. No discount code, no booking fee, no checkout additions.

The discount code question

A specific sub-issue: discount codes.

Some operators have a permanent code in force (usually 10 to 20 percent off, distributed via affiliate sites and voucher portals).

Some have temporary codes that expire.

Some have no codes at all.

For the comparison to be fair, find the best code currently in force at each operator and apply it. The comparison without codes overstates the price of code-running operators.

For us, no code applies because we do not run them. Our flat rate is the headline and the bottom line.

What to include in the comparison

For a 7-day cruise comparison, the typical bundle to include:

  • The service (Meet & Greet or Park & Ride).
  • The base insurance (included with all credible operators).
  • Standard vehicle (no oversize surcharge for most cars).
  • No discretionary add-ons.

For a longer or specialised cruise:

  • The cruise duration (the per-day rate often falls slightly past 14 days).
  • EV charging if relevant.
  • Oversize surcharge if relevant.
  • Pre-cruise hotel if relevant (separate from parking).

What not to include

A few things that are usually irrelevant to the comparison:

  • Loyalty programmes (you may not benefit from them on this trip).
  • Brand familiarity (does not affect the operational quality).
  • Marketing extras (waiting rooms, free coffee at the compound).

Where we typically win

On a like-for-like comparison across credible Southampton operators, our flat published rate plus our included service typically beats the competing all-in number for cruises of 7 nights and longer. The gap is wider on longer cruises because the per-day price advantage compounds.

For shorter cruises (3 to 5 nights), the comparison is closer but still usually in our favour.

For very short cruises (1 to 2 nights), the per-day rate matters less and the comparison is harder; we are competitive but not always the cheapest.
