Why we publish a flat price (no discount-code chase)

Why Cruise Azure publishes a flat price for Southampton cruise parking and does not run discount codes, and why that beats the alternative.

By Cruise Azure team 3 min read

Most Southampton cruise parking operators run a discount code in the booking funnel. The headline price is one number; the actual price after the code is a smaller number. The customer searches for the code, enters it at checkout, and pays the discounted figure.

We do not do that. Our headline price is the price you pay. This page covers why, and why it usually beats the alternative.

The discount code model

The mechanics of the discount code model:

  • Operator publishes a headline rate higher than the rate they actually need to charge.
  • Operator distributes a discount code (10 to 25 percent typically) via affiliate sites, voucher portals, and the booking funnel itself.
  • Customers find the code, enter it at checkout, pay the discounted rate.
  • Operator gets the booking at the rate they originally needed.

The customer feels they got a deal. The operator gets the booking. Everyone is happy on the surface.

What is wrong with the model

Two problems.

Customers who do not find the code pay over the odds. The headline rate is inflated. Customers who go straight through checkout (no time to hunt for codes, not aware codes exist) pay the higher number. The operator's margin on these bookings is high.

Code finding takes time. A customer who knows codes exist will spend 5 to 15 minutes searching, checking expired code listings, trying alternatives. That time is friction that adds nothing.

The discount code model rewards customers with time to hunt and penalises customers without.

Our flat-price model

Our headline price is the price every customer pays. No code distribution, no inflation, no expired-code disappointment.

The result: our flat price beats the post-code price of most operators' discount-code flow. On a 7-day Meet & Greet, our published rate is typically £5 to £15 below the post-discount-code rate of comparable operators.

How we keep the price down

Three things.

Direct booking only. No aggregator margin. Customers book us through our own quote tool.

Cruise-only, Southampton-only. Operational focus keeps overhead down.

Single compound, focused fleet. One compound for all bookings, drivers cross-trained for Meet & Greet and Park & Ride, shared infrastructure.

The savings from these three flow into the flat published rate.

The transparency angle

A flat published rate has a side benefit beyond price: it makes the booking flow faster and the comparison fairer.

Customers can see our price on the services page, check it against another operator's all-in number (including any code they have applied), and decide without a hidden-fee step at checkout.

For customers who care about pricing transparency as a value, the flat rate matters.

The returning customer perk

For returning customers, we do have a one-off perk: a returning customer discount code issued after the first booking, valid for one year, applicable to your second booking.

This is the only discount code we run. It is a thank-you for booking again, not a discount-flow trick. The first-booking price is the flat published rate; the second-booking discount is a real reduction off that rate.

What if you find a code claiming to apply to Cruise Azure

Discount codes on voucher and affiliate sites sometimes claim to apply to Cruise Azure. Some are scams; some are abandoned tests; some are old codes that expired.

If you find a code that claims to apply, you can try it at checkout. The booking flow either accepts it (rare, would mean it was real) or rejects it (the common case). Either way, the booking proceeds.

We do not honour third-party codes that are not part of our official returning-customer perk.

Frequently asked

Is there ever a sale or seasonal discount at Cruise Azure? The flat price is the same year-round. We do not run sales or seasonal discounts.

Can I negotiate? The published rate is the rate. We do not negotiate.

Are you sure your flat rate is competitive? Yes. Run a like-for-like quote across operators with their best code applied. Our flat rate wins on the all-in number for most cruise durations and services.
