Parking for a Royal Caribbean cruise from Southampton
Cruise parking for a Royal Caribbean sailing from Southampton, including Anthem of the Seas and other Quantum-class ships.
Royal Caribbean sails the largest ships to call at Southampton. Anthem of the Seas is the most frequent visitor, with occasional sailings of other Quantum and Voyager-class ships. This page covers parking for a Royal Caribbean cruise from Southampton.
Which terminal will my Royal Caribbean ship use
Royal Caribbean uses two of the five Southampton cruise terminals primarily:
City Cruise Terminal at Berth 101 is the most common Royal Caribbean berth. Anthem of the Seas sails from here regularly.
Horizon Cruise Terminal handles some Royal Caribbean sailings, particularly when City is occupied by another line.
QEII and Ocean Terminal see occasional Royal Caribbean visits.
The /cruise-parking/royal-caribbean/ page shows our coverage by terminal.
What kind of cruise is a Royal Caribbean cruise
Royal Caribbean is the American mega-ship cruise line. The ships are large (Anthem of the Seas carries about 4,900 guests at double occupancy), the on-board offering is heavily activity-oriented (rock climbing, ice skating, surf simulators), and the customer base is internationally mixed with a strong British contingent on Southampton sailings.
The line attracts families, multi-generational groups, and first-time cruisers more than the British heritage lines. The food and the on-board experience lean American.
For parking purposes:
- Luggage volume is high. Large ships, large cabins, often family bookings.
- Multi-car bookings are common. Larger family groups sometimes travel in two cars.
- The terminal is busy. Anthem of the Seas embarkation is one of the highest-volume cruise embarkations at Southampton.
Best service for a Royal Caribbean cruise
For Anthem of the Seas family bookings, Meet & Greet is usually the right call. The luggage volume on a family-of-four booking makes the terminal drop-off worth the small price premium over Park & Ride.
For two-passenger Royal Caribbean bookings, Park & Ride is the value option, particularly on longer cruises (Caribbean repositioning, Canaries).
Royal Caribbean sailing schedules and patterns
Anthem of the Seas runs a Southampton-based summer programme:
April to October: Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords, Iceland, occasional Baltic.
November to March: Anthem of the Seas typically repositions to the Caribbean for the winter season. Royal Caribbean's Southampton presence is reduced in winter; the occasional repositioning sailing is the main activity.
Itineraries are typically 7 to 12 nights, occasionally longer for Caribbean repositioning.
Royal Caribbean check-in timing
Royal Caribbean opens check-in 11:00 am or 12:00 pm for a 4:00 pm or 5:00 pm sail-away. Higher cabin grades sometimes get an earlier window.
For our handover slot, the standard 90-minute arrival applies. Aim to arrive 90 minutes before your cruise sail-away.
City Terminal approach
City Cruise Terminal is at Berth 101 in the Western Docks, accessed through Dock Gate 10 off West Quay Road.
The approach from the M27 is the same as Mayflower and Horizon: M271 to A33 to West Quay Road, signposted for Dock Gate 10.
City Terminal's short-stay car park is mid-sized. On peak Royal Caribbean embarkation days (Saturdays in summer), expect a queue at the dock gate.
Drop-off in practice
The drop-off in the short-stay car park is straightforward. The challenge on peak days is the dock gate queue rather than the handover itself, which is the standard 2 minutes once you reach our driver.
If you are on a peak-day Anthem of the Seas embarkation, allow extra time for the dock gate approach. 90 minutes before sail-away is the recommended buffer; on a peak Saturday it is the minimum.
Multi-generational and family bookings
Royal Caribbean attracts a lot of multi-generational family bookings: grandparents, parents, children, sometimes a teenage cousin or two. The party often arrives in two cars.
For multi-car bookings, each car is its own parking booking at the standard published rate. We can co-ordinate returns if both cars need to land at the terminal at the same time on cruise return. Add a note at booking.
Pre-cruise hotels for Royal Caribbean guests
City Terminal is closest to the Voco Southampton and Leonardo Royal Grand Harbour. Both are walking distance from the dock gate.
For larger family groups, the Premier Inn Southampton City Centre is a value option a short taxi from the terminal.
Frequently asked
Is parking for Anthem of the Seas different from parking for any other ship? Operationally, no. The cruise is busier and the dock gate is busier, but our service is the same.
Can I book Park & Ride for a family of four on Anthem of the Seas? Yes, but the shuttle will be full. For families with significant luggage, Meet & Greet is usually the smoother option.
Royal Caribbean changed our ship to a Voyager-class. Different parking? Same parking. The terminal may change, in which case contact us to update the booking.
What about Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor loyalty? Our returning customer discount is independent. The two do not stack.
