Which terminal will my MSC ship use

MSC uses Horizon Cruise Terminal most often. The newer terminal's larger berth and modern facilities suit MSC's larger ships.

Occasionally MSC sailings use City or Ocean Terminal.

What kind of cruise is an MSC cruise

MSC is the European-positioned cruise line. The ships are large (Virtuosa at about 4,800 guests), the on-board experience emphasises dining and entertainment, and the customer base is genuinely international: British, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and others all on the same sailing.

The on-board language varies by sailing; English is always present, with other languages used in announcements depending on the passenger mix.

For parking purposes:

• Luggage volume is varied. European customers tend to pack lighter than American customers; British customers tend to pack heavier.
• Multi-language considerations are not relevant to the parking handover (our drivers speak English; signage is English) but may affect the cruise terminal experience.
• The Southampton check-in queue tends to move quickly for MSC because the international guest mix means staggered arrivals rather than a single peak.

Best service for an MSC cruise

For MSC customers, the choice between Meet & Greet and Park & Ride follows the same logic as any other line. The price difference matters more for longer Mediterranean or Northern European sailings.

MSC sailing schedules and patterns

MSC's Southampton programme is largely seasonal:

Spring (April-June): Mediterranean and Northern European itineraries, occasionally short cruises to the Channel Islands.

Summer (July-August): Norwegian Fjords, Baltic, Mediterranean.

Autumn (September-October): Mediterranean continues, repositioning to the warmer routes.

Winter (November-February): MSC's Southampton presence is reduced; the ships reposition to the Caribbean and the Middle East.

MSC check-in timing

MSC opens check-in around 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm for a 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm sail-away. The check-in queue at Horizon Terminal moves quickly because of the staggered international arrival pattern.

For our handover slot, the standard 90-minute arrival applies.

Horizon Terminal approach

Horizon is at Berth 102 in the Western Docks, accessed through Dock Gate 10 off West Quay Road. The terminal was opened in 2021 by the Maritime Minister, at a cost of £55 million, and has the most modern facilities of the five.

The approach is the same as for Mayflower and City: M27 to M271 to A33 to West Quay Road, signposted for Dock Gate 10.

Horizon's short-stay car park is purpose-built for the largest ships and rarely feels congested even during peak embarkation.

Pre-cruise hotels for MSC guests

Horizon is the easiest terminal for pre-cruise hotel guests because it is walking distance from the Western Docks hotels:

The Ibis Southampton Centre is roughly a 10-minute walk.

The Leonardo Royal Grand Harbour is a slightly longer walk but with parking on arrival.
