Parking for a Cunard cruise from Southampton

Cruise parking for a Cunard sailing from Southampton, including Queen Mary 2 transatlantic crossings and the rest of the fleet.

By Cruise Azure team 4 min read

Cunard sails Queen Mary 2, Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth from Southampton. The transatlantic crossings on QM2 are the headline product; the rest of the fleet does Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and seasonal world cruises. This page covers parking for any Cunard sailing.

Which terminal will my Cunard ship use

Cunard uses three of the five Southampton cruise terminals:

Mayflower Cruise Terminal is Queen Mary 2's home berth at Berth 106. Most QM2 transatlantic sailings depart from here.

Ocean Cruise Terminal handles Queen Anne sailings regularly and Queen Victoria sometimes.

QEII Cruise Terminal is named after the original Queen Elizabeth II and handles Queen Victoria and Queen Anne sailings.

Horizon and City Terminal are less common for Cunard but do see occasional sailings.

Your booking confirmation from Cunard names the terminal. The /cruise-parking/cunard/ page shows our coverage by ship and terminal.

What kind of cruise is a Cunard cruise

Cunard is the premium-positioned British cruise line. The customer base skews older than P&O, more international, and is on cruise for the experience rather than for the destination alone. Formal nights are a notable Cunard feature; the dress code is upheld more strictly than on most other lines.

The ships are larger than the ultra-luxury small-ship lines but smaller than the largest mass-market ships. Customer counts per sailing are typically 2,000 to 3,000 on the smaller queens and around 3,400 on QM2.

For parking purposes:

  • Luggage volume tends to be higher than P&O. Customers pack for formal nights, multi-day shore excursions, and longer cruise durations.
  • Mobility considerations come up regularly. Cunard's older skew means more guests with reduced mobility.
  • The pre-cruise experience matters. Cunard customers are more likely to stay at a pre-cruise hotel and arrive comfortably rather than rushing.

Queen Mary 2 transatlantic crossings

The QM2 transatlantic between Southampton and New York is the signature Cunard product. The crossing takes 7 days; the cruise itself usually books 6 or 7 nights one way.

For QM2 transatlantic customers, two patterns are common:

Sail one way, fly back. Customer drives to Southampton, sails to New York, flies home. The parking booking covers the cruise embarkation handover only. We do not see the customer for the return.

Fly out, sail back. Customer flies to New York, sails back to Southampton. The parking booking starts on the return day. We collect from the terminal short-stay car park when QM2 docks.

Both are fly-cruise patterns and both are supported by our booking flow.

Best service for a Cunard cruise

Cunard customers tend to lean towards Meet & Greet more than the average Southampton cruise customer. The reasons:

  • Higher luggage volume.
  • Older average customer age, which makes the shuttle option less appealing.
  • Premium-positioned cruise where the convenience of the terminal drop-off matches the rest of the experience.

Park & Ride still works for Cunard customers who are travelling light or who specifically want the cost saving on a longer cruise.

Cunard sailing schedules and patterns

Cunard runs a distinctive seasonal pattern from Southampton:

Spring (March-May): Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords, QM2 transatlantic begins.

Summer (June-August): QM2 transatlantic peaks (most weeks), Mediterranean continues, Baltic.

Autumn (September-October): QM2 transatlantic continues, Mediterranean reduces, repositioning begins.

Winter (November-February): QM2 transatlantic stops for winter (refit period), Queen Anne and Queen Victoria run world cruises, Queen Elizabeth runs Caribbean sailings.

Cunard world cruises (typically January-April) are 100+ day sailings. The car may be with us for the entire duration if you do the full round-trip. Our long-stay post covers what to think about for very long stays.

Cunard check-in timing

Cunard typically opens check-in earlier than mass-market lines, often 9:00 am or 10:00 am for an afternoon sail-away. Cunard guests are assigned specific check-in windows; the cruise line asks you to arrive within your window rather than turning up whenever.

For our handover slot, match it to your Cunard-assigned check-in time. The 30-minute slot system accommodates this.

Mayflower Terminal approach for QM2

Queen Mary 2 sails from Mayflower at Berth 106, accessed through Dock Gate 10 off West Quay Road.

The approach from the M27 is M271 to A33 to West Quay Road, signposted for Dock Gate 10. The drive from the M27 junction to the dock gate is about 10 minutes in normal traffic.

Mayflower's short-stay car park is less congested than the Eastern Docks terminals because QM2 sailings are roughly 2,600 passengers (smaller than Iona at 5,000+).

Pre-cruise hotels for Cunard guests

Cunard customers are more likely than P&O customers to stay at a pre-cruise hotel. The two natural fits:

For Mayflower / Western Docks sailings: The Leonardo Royal Grand Harbour is the closest premium option. Walking distance to City and Horizon Terminal; very short taxi to Mayflower.

For Ocean / QEII sailings: The Harbour Hotel is the closest premium option, directly opposite the Eastern Docks.
